As a theatre costume graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Karen created a 16th century style costume reflecting the attire of Queen Anne Boleyn. The heavily jeweled gown toured internationally with the FIDM costume collection, and last fall was displayed at Robinson's May in Beverly Hills alongside a selection of ornate garments from the recent film 'Elizabeth'.
In December, demonstrating artists Ann and Karen showcased polymer clay sculpting and patterning techniques in the Huntington Library Bookstore. In addition to the delicate rose styles currently available in the bookstore, a selection of camellia pins and earrings have been added, with more floral and butterfly styles coming in late spring.
AnKara Designs accessories are now featured in the women's clothing store Dress'r Drawers in Canyon Country. Store owner Susan Doughman selected delicate rose, cameo, and pearl pins and earrings, as well as some updated crystal and pearl hair clips and bobby pins to complement the knit and floral clothing she carries. The store is located at 19382 Soledad Canyon Rd.

The continuing trend in elaborate period films has caused an explosion of delicate hair accessories, often worn in multiples. In addition to the seven sizes of clay decorated barrettes already in the AnKara Designs line, many new styles have been added. These styles include smaller size clips, bobby pins and headbands. They are accented with butterflies, crystal flowers, clay roses, antique glass stones, filigree leaves, beads, and colored pearls to coordinate with the most popular AnKara necklaces, bracelets, pins, and earrings. Ann and Karen use only the best quality barrettes and clips made in France, to insure long wear, comfort, and staying power in different hair types. |
